An Interior Pilgrimage with The Interior Liturgy…
A Brief Meditation on the Our Father,
according to the Seven Stations of the Interior Liturgy.
The First Movement in the Interior Liturgy of the Our Father is the Liturgy of the Word. The call in this first movement is to repentance, to conversion, to discipleship – to prepare to meet Christ in blessed communion. This corresponds to the Liturgy of the Word in Holy Mass. This First Movement includes the first three Stations (the last three petitions of the prayer):
- The 1st Station, the Station of Deliverance:
The Petition: “Deliver us from evil.” - The 2nd Station, the Station of Trial:
The Petition: “Lead us not into temptation.” - The 3rd Station, the Station of Mercy:
The Petition: “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
The 1st Station of the Interior Liturgy: the Station of Deliverance.
The sacrament corresponding to the 1st Station is Baptism, which delivers us from evil and places us in Christ our salvation.
Meditation:
Look and see the evil that has come upon beloved mankind, and even the earth itself, because of sin! There are natural evils:
hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and all natural disasters. There are physical evils and deformities: genetic defects, viruses, cancers, and all diseases. There are moral evils: lying, murdering, stealing, all kinds of sexual aberrations and transgressions, abuses and assaults. Man has become the predator upon his neighbor, and even upon himself. Because of sin, all creation has been subjected to futility. God who heals, restores and renews us, deliver us from evil!
Responsory:
Verse: And Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
Response: Our Father, deliver us from evil.
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal 3:27)
Response: Our Father, deliver us from evil.
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. (CCC 1213)
Response: Our Father, deliver us from evil.
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission….(CCC 1213)
Response: Our Father, deliver us from evil.
Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
(pause)
Amen.
Dear Thomas,
I’m choosing to spend time on one station per day. How providential — today is the Feast of St. Cyril of Alexandria — great champion of Mary, Mother of God!
Mary Mother of the Church pray for us. St. Cyril, pray for us. Jesus, we trust in You! Come Holy Spirit!

Dear Thomas,
Today, I’m looking to our Mother Mary, as I ponder the petition, “Deliver us from evil” for she is the “Refuge of Sinners”. Mary is the one to whom we have been given by Jesus from His Cross saying: “Behold your Mother!” (Jn 19:27).
Listening to Jesus say those words, I begin to see in Mary the humility to which all are called. Mary listened and learned from Jesus the depth of His Humility.
Jesus, Meek and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours! Holy Spirit pour your gifts into my soul and deliver me from evil. Father, deliver us all from evil.
